SINGAPORE, Sept 7 — On Polling Day this Friday, electoral candidates and members of the public can gather at designated assembly centres to await the announcement of the results from the close of the polls at 8pm and until 30 minutes after the announcement of the last result of the General Election, the police said today in a release.
The police have released a list of 18 sites where contesting parties and independent candidates can apply for permits to host their supporters.
Electoral divisions have been grouped into three zones, and the electoral candidates can only apply for one assembly centre site in each zone that it is contesting in.
The police will conduct a ballot when more than one party applied for the same site.
In addition to the listed sites, contesting parties and independent candidates can also apply for a permit to use an indoor site as an assembly centre. The site has to be within the zone they are contesting in.
The contesting parties and independent candidates can apply for the site on Wednesday and Thursday, between 8.30am and 2.30pm, and the list of assembly points allocated will be announced on Thursday after permit applications close.
Candidates and their election agents have been invited to a briefing at 9am tomorrow by the Police Elections Permits Office on the application procedures at the Police Cantonment Complex. — TODAY
