SINGAPORE, Aug 1 — Two more charges were yesterday pressed against the neighbour of the Lower Delta Road household which was purportedly captured in a video abusing an elderly woman.

Darwinder Singh, 39, is now also accused of abetting his neighbour Khamis Abas in voluntarily causing hurt to his wife Kamisah Burel by feeding her human faeces and urine in April this year.

A similar charge was brought against Singh when he was first hauled to court last week, accusing him of abetting Kamisah’s daughter Siti Nur Redha to feed her mother human faeces and urine on July 1.

The other fresh charge against Singh yesterday is for slapping Khamis on one occasion sometime last year. In total, Singh faces three charges now.

The saga broke when a video clip was circulated on social media early last week purportedly showing Kamisah being hit by a younger woman outside a flat.

The police are investigating reports lodged against Siti and Khamis, with the reports classified as a case of voluntarily causing hurt.

Appearing in court yesterday, Singh asked the court for bail to be offered so that he can care for his mother.

“There’s no one to take care of her except me. Please help me,” he said, claiming that his mother has a heart condition. The judge ordered Singh to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for two weeks for psychiatric observation. His case will be heard in court again on Aug 14.

If convicted of abetting in voluntarily causing hurt to Kamisah, Singh may be jailed up to seven years, fined and caned, on each charge.

The charge of slapping Khamis carries a maximum penalty of two years jail and/or a S$5,000 (RM 13,930) fine.  — TODAY
