SINGAPORE, July 21 — The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) has said it is looking into a video of an elderly woman being hit by a younger lady outside a HDB flat at Lower Delta Road.

In the video recorded by neighbours of the victim, two women are seen standing and watching at a HDB corridor while an elderly woman sweeps. One of the women then starts hitting the elderly woman on the head multiple times.

The video, filmed by Facebook user “ApohTecky Numero” and posted on his own page has since gotten over 24,000 shares. In the accompanying post he said “this is not the first time” and “we have been witnessing a lot of incidents” adding that the elderly woman’s face was “bruised every single time we see her”.

In a post on Facebook last night, the Ministry said: “Please be assured that the elderly woman’s safety is our priority.”

Member of Parliament Lily Neo, whose constituency the incident occurred in, said in a Facebook post this morning: “I understand that the elderly woman has been taken to the hospital for medical check-up while the accused is under police custody.”

Police however said that a report was lodged and that investigations are ongoing.

Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin also weighed in on the incident on Facebook early this morning, saying the Ministry “will follow up and make sure that the elderly lady is protected”. — TODAY
