In Singapore, three charged with conspiring to commit murder

SINGAPORE, June 24 — The three men who were arrested earlier for conspiring to commit murder were charged in court this morning.

Yae Wynnt Oaung, a 32-year-old Myanmar national, Zaw Min Hlaing, a 37-year-old Singapore permanent resident and Phyo Min Naing, a 31-year-old Myanmar national, were charged with abetment by conspiracy to commit murder.

An accomplice, Win Kyaw Kyaw Aung @ Aung Aung, 29, is still at large.

The group’s alleged murder target was identified in court documents as Singapore permanent resident Aye Maung Maung Thet, 28.

Under the Penal Code, a person who abets in an offence punishable by death or life imprisonment can be jailed up to seven years and fined, if the offence was not eventually committed.

If an offence is committed after the abetment, and a person was hurt, the abettor can be jailed up to 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

The court heard that the four men had planned to carry out their crime on Saturday (June 20). The next day, at 9.32pm, three of them tried to abduct Aye Maung Maung Thet at a multi-storey car park located at block 747A Pasir Ris Street 7.

The alleged murder target was assaulted, and a taser gun was used on him. The attackers fled when the victim’s cries for help attracted the attention of passers-by.

The victim made a police report on the same day.

One of the suspects was arrested on Monday afternoon in an ambush near Balestier Road. Hours later, police arrested the other two suspects at an Aloha Changi chalet.

At the chalet, several items were seized including a meat mincer, chainsaw, kitchen knives, gas cooker, gas cylinder tank, a tool set, trolley bags, plastic sheets, cable ties, a cleaver, aprons, a chopping board and rubber boots.

The police also seized a white Mitsubishi multi-purpose vehicle at the basement carpark of Changi Airport Terminal 3.

The accomplice still at large is believed to have left Singapore on Monday morning, the police had said.

The case will be heard again on July 1. — TODAY
