RIO DE JANEIRO, June 25 ― Two England fans were arrested today for allegedly trying to rob a Brazilian taxi driver, in a twist on British tabloid warnings of rampant crime at the World Cup.

Military police in the southeastern city of Belo Horizonte, where England drew 0-0 with Costa Rica yesterday in the final match of their ill-fated World Cup campaign, say the pair refused to pay the fare for a cab ride in the city center and then tried to take all the driver's money.

It comes after police arrested four people including a British man on drug-trafficking charges yesterday in Belo Horizonte.

Police in the city have arrested more than 100 people since the World Cup began on June 12, including 50 foreigners ― mostly accused of drug use, theft, illegal weapons possession, damaging public property and insulting police. ― AFP
