SAO PAULO, June 12 — World football’s governing body FIFA will use Goal Control GMBH’s goal-line technology at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Goal-line technology is being introduced to provide help to officials as mistakes can be made when they are unable to keep up with play or have an unclear view of an incident.

German company Goal Control’s technology features high-speed video cameras and a special watch worn by match officials.
There are 14 cameras, 7 per goal, situated around the pitch. The cameras send data to a powerful central image processing computer system that tracks the ball’s position to within millimeters and can filter out players to create a virtual picture and determine whether a ball has crossed the line or not.
When this occurs a signal is sent to the official’s watches indicating a goal. — Reuters
