What You Think
Superman? Batman? No thanks, we have our fire fighters! — Shailaja Damodaran

JUNE 10 — If there’s a Superman for Metropolis, Batman for Gotham City, then we have our fire fighter heroes in Kota Tinggi to the rescue.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to officers from the Fire and Rescue Department of Kota Tinggi District (Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Daerah Kota Tinggi) who gave a helping hand to free three kittens trapped inside a shop lot.

Yesterday, my father and I spotted a mother cat pacing up and down with unease outside a closed shop unit.

Moving closer, I realised her kittens were trapped inside and she had no way of going in.

As the place was locked and the owner’s contact details were unknown, there was no way of gaining access into the shop. The sight of the mother cat and kittens crying for one another was too painful, and we decided something had to be done. Hence, we approached the department in desperate need of help to bring the kittens out.

The team of four officers arrived in less than 15 minutes. While the mother was meowing in distress, the officers worked their best by first inspecting the exterior of the shop unit, and later figured out a way to make an outlet by the corner of the shutter door for the kittens to come out.

Skillful the officers made sure no damage was caused to the shutter door or any part of the shop.

The outlet made it possible for the kittens to come out.

The blazing sun and heat were no deterrent to officer Ahmad Amat, Mohd Kamal Said, Alexander Anak Ajam and Md. Safa Mansor, despite the fact that they were fasting.

The officers showed much dedication and sincerity in their task, though the victims were “just” animals, as some may say.

The fire fighters’ compassion and kindness saved the lives of the kittens and brought the feline family together.

For this, I salute the fire fighter team and the entire department of Fire and Rescue Department of Kota Tinggi District.

Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.
