SEPT 4 — I am writing this letter with regards to the announcement by MMC Gamuda to close off a large portion of Sprint Highway from the Section 16 Petaling Jaya interchange on Sunday and Monday (September 6 and 7).
This portion of Sprint Highway caters to traffic from Taman Tun Dr Ismail via Sprint (two lanes), SS2 via LDP (two lanes) and NKVE (two lanes).
MMC Gamuda should have done some on-site inspection on the proposal before simply asking traffic to be redirected into Section 17 before linking back to Sprint Highway as this suggestion would cause the area to be gridlocked.
The turn in from Sprint Highway into Jalan 17/21 would force traffic from six lanes of highway into a one-lane road. To get back on the Sprint Highway, the suggestion is to turn into Jalan 17/22 or to go towards Jalan Universiti.
Jalan 17/22 is presently ill-equipped to handle additional traffic due to IWK works being done all along the road. This road is now a one-lane road at numerous sections catering to two way internal town traffic.
It cannot cater to more traffic.
The other channel leads to Jalan Universiti, which is already jammed up during rush hour.
Instead of simply telling people to use Jalan 17/22 or Jalan Universiti, please advise motorists coming from Taman Tun Dr Ismail to divert into Penchala Link if they intend to go towards Kuala Lumpur while motorists coming from SS2 and NKVE should head towards the Federal Highway instead via LDP if possible.
If Monday comes and the same volume of traffic that goes through the Sprint Highway attempts to follow MMC Gamuda’s suggestion, everyone will be stuck in the area.
