The PM needs an ultimatum — Hafidz Baharom

JUNE 5 — In perhaps the most chicken “fecal matter” display of his “warrior blood” heritage, the Prime Minister of Malaysia chose not to make an appearance in front of non-government organisation members at the Putra World Trade Centre today.

The so-called “Nothing2Hide” forum was initially planned to go ahead at 10 am this morning was thrown into disarray when it was said that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was “highly likely” to turn up.

And turn up he did.

Yet, Datuk Seri Najib Razak was nowhere to be seen, leaving the organisers in a lurch and 1,500 NGO representatives wondering what the heck happened.

Furthermore, the event has been said to be “closed door”, thus the media would only be able to see the launching ceremony.

Again, Najib has chosen to only brave crowds that are backing him and has chosen to leave his detractors and heaviest critics out in the cold, akin to a Malay schoolboy who is suffering a temper tantrum and has no better reaction than to “merajuk”.

It may be alright a reaction for a primary school student, but not the leader of a nation who went all the way to Sarawak to show his burgeoning support at the price of promising more statewide autonomy there.

Since the prime minister has given an ultimatum to either back him on the mess or get out to his Cabinet regarding the issue of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), it is time for Malaysians to do the same for him.

Either explain 1MDB, answer all queries openly, or spend your days of retirement back in Pekan in infamy as the worst prime minister of Malaysia.

Najib must see now that he is perhaps the weakest prime minister the country has seen in history, and that weakness is affecting not only society, but more so in business and the economy.

It is safe to say that other son of Razak inherited the economic genius of his father rather than the one currently occupying this seat of power. And none of the hired propaganda representatives - not even that homophobic former Deputy Education Minister - can save him.

The prime minister must see that his good name and that of his father has now been tainted by misstep after misstep that has led to this point where most Malaysians no longer have faith in any of his doings.

He failed to keep his word on undoing the Sedition Act. He hypocritically failed to deliver a better Malaysia even after trumpeting that his government was one with “promises fulfilled” (Janji Ditepati).

He even failed to unite the nation under his so-called “1Malaysia” brand.

The fact that Malaysians have chosen to forgive incompetence, one after another, shows that this country must draw the line in the sand two years from now in the next general election.

As such, the lawmakers of this nation has to make the choice.

Either the entirety of Cabinet show that the prime minister no longer has the means to work, or the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers ignore the whip and choose to put forth a motion of no confidence in Najib’s leadership.

Because I can assure all of you that there will be voters in each of your constituents who will ask you why you let the nation spiral down the drain while you all sat on your hands.

The popular support of the ruling coalition is dwindling by the day. It is now up to Najib whether he wants to vacate the seat of power by choice or by political force, seeing himself and his entire coalition all tumble like an unstable Jenga tower.
