What You Think
Unbecoming to convert non-Muslims stealthily — Ravinder Singh
Malay Mail

MAY 14 — For want of a better word, I settle for the word “unbecoming” to describe the conversion or attempted conversion of non-Muslims to Islam by stealthy means.

Why should Muslims be free to proselytize to non-Muslims when non-Muslims are prohibited from proselytizing to Muslims?

Why is there a double standard – do what I say but don’t do what I do?

Has this got something to do with what I had heard from a Muslim friend a long time ago, i.e. that a Muslim who converts a non-Muslim (kafir) has a place guaranteed in heaven? So the place in heaven (and benefits associated with it) that these people are trying to secure justifies any means to convert a kafir.

Did the prophet ever teach this?

Why are some Muslims so “cenderung” to go out of the way to use whatever means of “persuading” unsuspecting, helpless, persons, even children, to convert?

The same people who tell the non-Muslims that they cannot proselytize their faiths to Muslims should also tell their own people not to proselytize Islam to non-Muslims. The rule or law should be even both ways.

What happened to the prophet’s teachings about not doing to others what you don’t want others to do to you?

Convert by all means, but do it in such a way that people will love the religion and come to it voluntarily, out of their own free will. Stealthy conversions only make people dislike the religion.

And if any of the converts become disillusioned with their new faith, they should be free to leave. Religion is like membership of a club.

Didn’t the prophet preach that there is no compulsion in religion? So how can fallible humans override the prophet?

It is a very sad thing that we don’t see the Prophet’s teaching being respected.

When this happens, please don’t blame it on people’s negative perception that the hidden motive is political.

Living in peace and harmony is not achieved by the actions of these people who are so “cenderung” to secure their place in heaven, if what I had heard is true.

If it is true that Islam teaches that a place in heaven is guaranteed to any Muslim who converts a “kafir” by whatever means, could some Ulamas or Muslim scholars please tell us so openly.

I’m sorry for being blunt, but stealthy conversions are not a ‘main-main’ thing.
