KUALA LUMPUR — I refer to the Auditor-General’s Report 2013 (“2013 A-G Report”), which highlighted many incidences that had caused severe losses to taxpayers’ money within both Barisan Nasional government and Pakatan Rakyat state government.
Not all the incidences highlighted in the 2013 A-G Report involved corruption. Some involved purported lack of care, wastage and incompetence.
As such, these incidences would be beyond the jurisdiction of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The 2013 A-G Report would be a futile exercise if there was no firm action taken against the culprits, whether they involved corruption or otherwise.
For those that involved lack of care, wastage and incompetence, action must still be taken, including demotion or sacking.
At present the MACC automatically investigates matters raised in the A-G Report. But the MACC cannot take action unless the matter involved corruption.
Gerakan Youth urges the Government to establish a commission to monitor matters highlighted in the Auditor-General’s Report and to submit to Parliament an annual report on what action had been taken against the culprits.
Both Barisan Nasional government and Pakatan Rakyat state government must submit to the proposed commission their action taken against the culprits.
If there is no designated body to monitor and give an annual review on action taken, all future matters raised in the A-G’s Report would be a futile exercise.
