SEPT 11 — I call upon the Home Minister to respond to a report in the Malay Mail over the lack of action by the police in a hit and run incident in Taiping on 18 June this year in which 3 people were killed and 3 others injured.

The report alleges that the suspect rammed into four motorcycles along a 2km stretch at the Taiping-Simpang main road at 2am, killing Harvinder Singh, 28, Radzizah Mohd Yusoff, 55, and her husband Mohd Zaini Abdullah 57 and injuring Harvinder’s friend, Mohd Ismail Md Ramli, 22, and Johari Zakari, 45, who suffered a broken leg, and another unidentified motorcyclist.

Taiping district police chief ACP Yusof Mohd Diah today said the police were still waiting for a chemist report to complete investigations.

With respect, 3 months for a chemist report? That is not acceptable at all. Why is there such a delay in getting a chemist report? There are also other offences which appear to have been committed here as well, the investigations of which do not necessarily need to depend on a chemist report. So why are the police so slow in taking action?

The Home Minister cannot and must not remain silent. This is a matter of public concern. It also raises doubts in the promises made by the Home Minister that the police will toughen up its act in order to win over public confidence and support. He must explain in full why no action has been taken against anyone in the matter until now.

I will raise this matter in Parliament in the coming sitting. Meanwhile, I call upon the police to act without fear or favour so that justice will be done in this case, without further delay.
