BANGKOK, Jan 26 — Part of the terminal building at Khon Kaen Airport in northeast Thailand went up in flames this morning, forcing the evacuation of more than 1,000 passengers.

All flights to and from the airport were diverted to nearby Udon Thani Airport as the authorities shuttered the airport from any flights, said Capt Passakorn Khamphu from Ban Ped police station today.

The fire broke out at about 7 am (local time) at the third floor of the terminal building and spread rapidly to other parts of the building, before the firefighters could manage to control and extinguish it about an hour later, he said.

No casualty was reported as a result of the incident, he added.

A total of 16 arrival and departure flights were affected due to the fire.

Meanwhile, provincial governor Somsak Jangtrakul was reported by the local media as saying that the fire was believed to have begun at the electrical control room in the third floor of the terminal building. — Bernama
