LONDON, May 29 — British Airways resumed some flights from Britain's two biggest airports yesterday, after a global computer system failure created chaos.

Hundreds of passengers are still waiting for hours at London Heathrow however.

The airline said it aimed to operate the majority of services from Heathrow and a near normal schedule from Gatwick.

Heathrow, however, saying it expected further delays and cancellations of BA flights.

Some passengers were sleeping on the floor or on luggage trolleys as they waited for information.

Several passengers complained about a lack of information from airline representatives at the airport.

Others said their luggage had been lost.

While British Ariways insisted that most of the IT problems are behind them, they warned passengers not to travel to the affected airports until they had confirmed bookings on new flights.

The company could not immediately detail the exact number of flights cancelled over the weekend, but the problems come before a holiday Monday - and at the start of many children's half term breaks.

While other airlines, including Lufthansa and Air France have been hit by computer problems previously, the scale and length of British Airways' troubles are unusual. — Reuters
