KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — On May 28, 2015, a British Airways flight touched down on the tarmac of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

It may have been business as usual at the country’s busiest aviation hub, but it was a momentous occasion for all involved, for it marked the return of the carrier to Kuala Lumpur after an absence of 14 years.

Since then, British Airways has reaffirmed its commitment to travellers from Malaysia by deploying the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the newest and most technologically advanced aircraft in its fleet on this very route.

The airline is also the first to fly this aircraft type between Kuala Lumpur and London, as well as the only airline to offer a four-class configured service on the route.

Vivian Tan-Loh, British Airways’ country manager for Malaysia, said, “The UK has always been one of the favourite destinations in Europe for many Malaysians — there is always something for everyone, be it shopping, sightseeing, experiencing the culture or sampling the cuisine.

“Our flights provide more choices for business and leisure travellers from Malaysia who are looking to visit the UK, Europe and North America.

“The 787-9 sets new standards in operating efficiency and environmental performance. I am confident that once they fly on our 787-9, it will change completely their experience of long-haul travel in a big way.”

To mark the first anniversary of the resumption of direct flights to Kuala Lumpur from London Heathrow, the carrier is holding a “Bake-Away with British Airways” competition.

All you need to do is impress the judges with your creation that melds Malaysian and British themes to demonstrate the long-held ties between the two counties.

To enter, email a photo of your intended entry to bakeaway@quattro.com.my, and explain in 25 words: “Why I should be the finalist at the Bake-Away with British Airways competition.”

The final submission date for entries is May 24, 2016.

Once all the entries have been narrowed down to the best 12, the finalists will be required to recreate their submissions ‘live’ at the “Bake-Away” at the Starhill Culinary Studio on June 2, 2016.

The judging and prize presentation will also be held at Newens Tea House that same afternoon.

For more information on the competition, visit the British Airways Facebook page.
