KATHMANDU, March 16 — Two popular tourist destinations of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu will remain open twenty four hours upon request of travel and tourism entrepreneurs.
Durbarmarga (King’s Way), Kathmandu’s most posh area and Thamel, a popular tourist hub, will not be closed even at night as the government has granted permission to open the businesses twenty four hours, said Ek Narayan Aryal, chief administrator of Kathmandu.
“We have granted permission to open the tourist areas twenty four hours for which proper security arrangements have been made in coordination with police,” Aryal said.
Earlier the government had ordered to close the market at 10pm citing security reason. Entrepreneurs had complained that the government’s decision had affected night business in the area.
Kathmandu’s police commissioner Bigyan Raj Sharma said that all entrepreneurs had been asked to mandatorily install CCTV cameras and keep their own security guards if they wished to run their businesses at night.
Entrepreneurs have welcomed the decision saying that it will add life to businesses in these areas. — Bernama
