KUANTAN, March 4 — Mutiara Taman Negara Resort in Kuala Tahan, ravaged by the floods in December last year, is ready to mesmerise local and foreign guests with the world’s oldest rainforest.

Its manager, Nathan Vaithi said the resort has been receiving guests since its soft opening on March 1, although it has to do some adjustment to operate.

“A few changes were put in place in the light of the floods, such as using the fiction room as a restaurant. This is a temporary measure and full operation is expected to resume within two months,” he told Bernama via e-mail today.

The floods that wrecked havoc in Pahang destroyed the restaurant and five rooms costing the resort RM10 million to repair.

Vaithi was grateful for his team’s full support in dealing with the challenging Monsoon season and their dedication to get the resort back in running order.

“After two months of hard work, all personnel and associates with their friendly faces, are eager to serve our guests in every which way possible to make their stay here as memorable as possible.” Vaithi expressed his gratitude to wildlife authorities, local government, district officers, police personnel and Member of Parliament for a helping during the floods.

“We would not have been able to bounce back as sprightly as we have and for that, we are greatly indebted to them,” he said.

Taman Negara is home to some 10,000 plants, 150,000 insects, 25,000 invertebrates, 675 birds, 270 reptiles, 250 freshwater fish and 200 mammals. — Bernama
