NEW YORK, Dec 5 — New York’s One World Trade Centre is the world’s most expensive skyscraper in history, according to new figures released by building data company Emporis.
The 1,776 feet (541 metre) structure, which stands immediately beside the memorial for the Twin Towers and offers views over Manhattan from its 100th floor observatory, cost an eye-watering US$3.9 billion (RM13.5 billion) to build. In joint second place is extravagant luxury Las Vegas hotel The Palazzo, and London’s The Shard, each of which cost US$1.9 billion to build. Fourth place is taken by Taipei 101 in Taiwan, a US$1.76 billion office tower whose design is based on the number eight and which was built entirely according to Feng Shui principles. Perhaps surprisingly, the tallest building in the world—the Burj Khalifa in Dubai—is only the fifth most expensive, costing less than half of One World Trade Centre’s budget at US$1.5 billion. It shares its spot in the rankings with the Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort in China. Here is the full list of the world’s 10 most expensive skyscrapers according to Emporis: 1.
