Dolphin watching among activities on offer at Santubong Nature Festival

KUCHING, Oct 28 — Dolphin watching will be among many exciting activities at the second edition of the Santubong Nature Festival (SNF) to be held at the Permai Rainforest Resort, near here, on November 8 and 9.

On November 8, the event is scheduled to start at 11am and the next day at 9am, and interested participants are required to register with the organiser as early as possible, as the seats are limited.

Boat charges are RM80 for adults and RM40 for children aged below 12 years, according to a statement from the organising comittee.

Jointly organised by the Kuching branch of the Malaysian Nature Society and Permai Rainforest Resort with the support of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Sarawak Museum and Sarawak Forestry Corporation, the festival aimed at, among others, to raise public awareness on the priceless natural and historical heritage value of the Santubong peninsula.

DBKU mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai is expected to open the festival at 9.30am, which will be followed by a series of talks, basically focusing on Santubong’s history, environment, ecology, forestry, and the ocean, among others.

On Sunday, the festival will start as early as 8.30am with the Survivor Race for the physically fit which includes racing events of cycling, hiking, kayaking, running, swimming and paddling.

All activities at the festival are free except for dolphin watching and the Survivor Race.

The Survivor Race fee is RM100 for a team with kayak and RM50 for an individual with kayak, RM80 for a team with no kayak and RM40 for an individual with no kayak. Registration for the race closes on November 5.

There will be a number of booths selling handicrafts and merchandise from MNS and its partners at the festival.

Early registration is necessary to take part in all the activities, and participants are required to provide their name, mobile phone number and identity card number for the indemnity form and email to santubongnaturefestival@gmail.com.
