NEW YORK, Aug 2 — If you’re looking for an affordable travel destination in the US this summer, you might want to avoid New England altogether, as the picturesque region dominates a newly released ranking of the most expensive spots in the US and Canada when it comes to accommodations.
After looking at the cheapest room rates at popular hotels and inns in locations close to a beach or city center for the month of August, online booking site CheapHotels.org found that accommodations in Nantucket are the priciest, averaging US$301 (RM967) for the most affordable double room.

Portland, Maine and Martha’s Vineyard followed close behind, with room rates averaging US$276 and US$274 respectively.
Overall, the top 10 list is dominated by cities in Maine and Massachusetts.
The most expensive destination in Canada is Jasper, Alberta, a wildly popular area in the summer for its stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. Rates average US$192 for the cheapest double room.
