SAO PAULO, June 3 ― Among the 12 host cities for the World Cup in Brazil, where will visiting football fans spend the most money per day? Between taxis, meals and hotel rooms, expenses can vary enormously between Brasília, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, as illustrated by a report from Tripadvisor.
In its Tripindex Soccer Costs comparison, the online travel resource provided an overview of common travel expenses for a trip to each of the World Cup 2014 host cities.
As it turns out, the most affordable destination is Cuiabá, in the south of Brazil, with an average total cost of US$456.68 (RM1,474.17) per day. Unsurprisingly, the priciest destination is Rio de Janeiro, where daily expenses total US$476.52 on average.
The difference between the two cities is due mainly to hotel prices. While travellers pay just US$218.16 per night for a three- or four-star hotel room in Cuiabá, they will shell out twice as much in Rio (US$444.74).
Although it may have the most affordable hotels, Cuiabá has the highest cab fares among the host cities, with a return trip (5km each way) costing US$19.58 on average. Recife offers the cheapest taxis, with a price of US$14.18 for a similar trip.
Recife also stands out for the lowest average cost for dinner (US$27.27 for a starter, main course and glass of wine), half the price of a comparable meal in São Paulo (US$54.75).
São Paulo is also a pricey place to have a snack, as the average total for fries and a soft drink is US$11.07. Tourists in Fortaleza can enjoy the same snack for a mere US$6.31. ― AFP-Relaxnews
