NEW YORK, March 18 — A recently launched app has been created to help travellers tick off bucket list destinations by looking for the best airfare offers and sending price alerts during seat sales.

Hitlist is pitched as an app that will take the grunt work out of scouring the web for cheap airfare tickets to dream destinations.

After building a wish list of destinations, the app will scan the web and send users price alerts via email, with information on optimal travel times and itineraries.

Unlike subscribing to airline seat sale alerts, Hitlist is supposed to edit destinations down and tailor alerts to users’ personalised list of desired cities.

One potential drawback? Users must log on using Facebook, a feature that has been the subject of grumbling among early users.

If the concept sounds familiar, that’s because GetGoing.com was developed based on a similar model, but for flexible globetrotters.

After specifying general travel preferences — beach, European holiday or Asia — and their desired vacation period, the app offers up a list of airfare choices.

Where GetGoing is different, however, is that once users have chosen two destinations and provided payment information, the app will then decide which of the two locations they'll be headed to.

Hitlist is a free app available on iOS and Android. — AFP-Relaxnews
