SINGAPORE, Feb 17 — Singapore welcomed a record 15.5 million visitors last year, up 7.2 per cent from 2012, tourism authorities said today.

Tourism revenues also hit a new high of S$23.5 billion (RM62.19 billion), an increase of 1.6 per cent over 2012, the Singapore Tourism Board said, citing preliminary estimates.

Lacking the white-sand beaches and other natural wonders of its bigger neighbours, Singapore offers a wide array of man-made attractions, including two casino resorts and Southeast Asia’s first Universal Studios theme park.

It hosts several international conventions and the world’s only Formula One night race.

Visitors are also drawn to Singapore’s shopping centres and local food, in addition to its low crime rate and reputation for cleanliness. — AFP/Relaxnews
