For the real deal, try a scoop for Forty Licks’ signature Salted Caramel ice cream. - Picture by CK Lim

Be cool... have some ice-cream

They say that it takes 50 licks to finish an ice-cream on average. Fans of Forty Licks Ice Cream may discover it to be so good that they only need 40 licks to finish theirs, or so creator Cheam Tat Wei hopes.

This former management consultant took classes at Le Cordon Bleu in London. Upon returning to Malaysia, Tat (as he’s known) would cook at home for family and friends after work.

Friends raved about his salted caramel ice cream, which encouraged him to try selling his creations. Employing the French-style method where flavours are intensified by steeping ingredients in milk overnight, Tat has hit a nerve with consumers looking for high-quality ice-cream.

Hot picks include Salted Caramel, Honey with Dark Chocolate, Earl Grey, Thai Tea, and Milk Chocolate with Peanut Butter.

Available at HotShots Coffee & Tea (Solaris Dutamas); Tipsy Brew O’Coffee (Setiawalk Puchong); The Carpenter’s Daughter (USJ Taipan); Little Wonton (Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru); Lids & Finch Café (Jalan Dungun,

Damansara Heights); Bricks Coffee (Damansara Perdana); Las Vacas (Mont Kiara); and Halia Inc Restaurant (Jalan Merdeka, Melaka).

Try the Lindy Hop

Bored of dancing in the clubs? Why not try a new dance instead? Join the Lindy Hoppers at KL Swing every Tuesday, 9.15pm at Sid’s Pub, Bangsar South for a free taster’s class.

From the East Coast Swing to the Charleston, dancers Ming Pang and Jordan Saw will show you the moves that revolutionised the 1920s to 1940s. Come with comfortable flat shoes and two left feet! Beginners are the best students for swing because the steps are based on the “off-beat” bits of the music.
