LONDON, July 18 — To help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the longest-running TV sci-fi series in the world, London’s Heathrow Airport has launched a variety of Doctor Who-themed experiences for passengers including signings by writer Jenny Colgan, author of the 2012 novel Doctor Who: Dark Horizons (under the name J.T. Colgan).

Beginning this week, the London hub airport will allow fans to time travel through the series via the TARDIS machine (Time and Relative Dimension in Space), the iconic telephone booth-shaped time travel machine from the show.

Starting this week, one of the most popular, longest-standing British TV shows will take over Terminal 5 featuring live performances of the show’s signature theme song and music by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, appearances by the show's Cybermen, TARDIS photo booths, exhibits of show props, memorabilia and augmented reality experiences.

It’s a busy week for the London airport. In addition to a special tribute exhibit to Doctor Who, Heathrow has also prepared stacks of purple T-shirts welcoming a “very special new arrival” which will be distributed to the first 1,000 passengers immediately following news of the royal baby’s birth. Any day now. – AFP
