CUPERTINO, Feb 8 — In the absence of official figures from Cupertino, the only stats on Apple Watch shipments come from tech analysts Canalys. The firm reports that 18 million of Apple’s wearables shipped globally in 2017, up 54 per cent on last year. Never before has a brand shifted so many smartwatches in a single year.

The year’s figures are boosted in particular by Apple’s Series 3 models, which alone account for almost half of (48 per cent) Apple Watch shipments in 2017. Shipments of watches with cellular connectivity (4G) reached 2.4 million.

In Q4 alone, Apple reportedly shipped eight million smart watches, according to Canalys, the highest ever number of shipments in a single quarter for any wearable vendor. Note that demand was particularly strong in the US, Japan and Australia, where major operators had Series 3 offers available in time for the Holiday shopping season. — AFP-Relaxnews
