CUPERTINO (California), Oct 28 — Apple TV now has 1,600 apps devoted specifically to video content, so Apple is unveiling a product designed to make it easier to discover which TV shows and movies to watch.
The app, called TV, pulls information from a number of video streaming apps into one place.
It remembers which shows a user is interested in, has been watching or might want to watch based on past preferences.
Apple’s new set-top box, released last year, introduced universal search using the Siri voice control.
But CEO Tim Cook said during a Mac event today that universal search was just the beginning.
"We want to do even more to make this experience even better,” he said.
"We want Apple TV to be the one place to access all of your television.”
The TV app will be available for Apple TV, iPhone and iPad and will be offered to Apple customers as a free software update in December.
TV was announced as part of a large Apple TV presentation during today’s event, which featured the introduction of a new MacBook Pro.
The iPhone maker also announced an update to Siri on Apple TV that will make it easier for viewers to tune into live news and sports.
Apple is also introducing a new single sign-on for Apple TV’s pay TV apps, those that require a cable subscription like HBO Go.
At first, single sign-on will be available for DirecTV and DISH Network subscribers. — The Hollywood Reporter /Bloomberg
