LOS ANGELES, May 10 — The first four entries to the Five Nights at Freddy’s horror game franchise are making their way to consoles, according to the fervently followed series’ creator.

Chatting to fans on Steam Community’s discussion boards for Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Scott Cawthon responded positively to a question about the FNaF games making it over to console.

First released in August 2014, Five Nights at Freddy’s soon became one of YouTube’s biggest gaming topics, with players uploading videos that captured its propensity for obscure narrative and sudden scares, as well as complex story theories and homages in song.

Tasked with looking after a themed fast food restaurant at night, anyone going through the FNaF experience soon discovers that the eatery’s animatronic mascots have an ominous nocturnal life of their own.

Iterating swiftly, Cawthon followed up on the first FNaF with a sequel in November, a third game in March 2015, and its fourth in July; PC versions would arrive first, followed soon after by mobile equivalents for Android and then iOS.

By August of that year, a Five Nights film was in pre-production at Warner Bros, and a novelised spin-off arrived in December.

“I’m talking with a few companies who are interested in doing console remakes of the original games,” Cawthon explained over the weekend.

That would seem to make sense, as November 2015 saw the arrival of a four-game franchise bundle on Steam, as Cawthon temporarily called time on the main FNaF narrative.

Since then, he released FNaF World in January 2016, a cute and colourful spin-off that was soon offered for free via indie games community Game Jolt.

A second spin-off is on its way, though perhaps sticking closer to the originals’ creepy tone: a spooky clown mascot started teasing Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location in April.

No further precision was supplied with regard to dates or target platforms for the console bundle, save for Cawthon remarking that he “doubt[s] the Wii-U will be a thing by the time a console release is ready” — Nintendo plans to release a Wii U successor in March 2017. — AFP-Relaxnews
