HONG KONG, Aug 18 — Alibaba founder and chairman Jack Ma has bought Hong Kong’s most expensive home for HKD1.5 billion (RM794 million), various media agencies have reported.
The 70-year-old three-story house worth US$193 million is located in the exclusive Victoria Peak district at 22 Barker Road.
The Hong Kong Economic Journal reported that the luxury property’s sale earlier this week makes it the second most-expensive home in the world per square foot, at US$19,500 per saleable square foot.
Its price per square foot is second only to Antilia in Mumbai, owned by Indian multibillionaire Mukesh Ambani and worth US$1 billion.
Ma’s new 9,900-square-foot mansion also boasts a 20,000-square-foot private garden and a 270-degree view of Hong Kong Harbour.
It was previously owned by telecommunications businessman Francis Yu, the International Business Times said.
Ma was ranked No. 7 on Forbes’ “Richest in Tech” list for 2015, and No. 1 on its “China Rich List” for 2014.
