COLOGNE, Aug 5 — Microsoft is trying for a slice of the e-sports pie with its latest endeavor, the Halo World Championship.
With US$1 million in prizes, it’ll be on par with other big gaming events such as the Dota 2 The International (happening now). The tournament will be available to gamers playing Halo 5:Guardians that will launch this October 27.
Microsoft said in a statement that the company aims to make Halo, the Xbox One and the Elite controller the “gold standard for console eSports”.
Besides the tournament, Microsoft also announced that it would launch a limited edition Halo 5:Guardians controller on October 20 and a new Halo game, Halo Wars 2 in the fall of 2016.
