SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 27 — A new device that’s good for your health and compatible with your smartwatch is in the works, only instead of counting your steps it tells you where to go for cleaner air.

Called WEPO, it’s a small, carbon-monoxide-sensing box that’s worn on the belt and notifies users by means of its corresponding app when the air quality around them gets dangerous.

Future versions of WEPO equipped with nitrogen dioxide sensors, particulate matter sensors and other pollution patrolling capabilities will be made available soon, according to the India-based company.

WEPO’s app is available for Android and iOS mobile devices and for AndroidWear smartwatches with plans in the works for it to be accessible from the Apple Watch.

The gadget is turning heads on Indiegogo, where it has taken just days to blow through its crowd-funding goal of earning US$10,000 (RM35,000).

The device is available for pre-order at a discounted holiday price of US$249 with delivery expected for August 2015.

After the holidays are over, expect to pay US$399 for pre-orders with delivery expected for July 2015.

Other personal air pollution trackers similar to WEPO include Clarity, TZOA and Air Beam, although no plans for smartwatch compatibility have yet been announced for these products. — AFP-Relaxnews
