MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, May 19 — Famous 3D puzzle Rubik’s Cube is in the spotlight in the Google Doodle for today. The search engine’s home page is an homage to the puzzle cube on its 40th birthday.

Users looking for a challenging distraction can even try their hand at solving the puzzle on the Google home page today.

Invented in 1974 by the Hungarian architect Erno Rubik, the cube invites puzzle fans to pivot its layers around a central axis with the goal of making each of its six sides a single colour (white, blue, red, green, yellow and orange).

Celebrating four decades of Rubik’s Cube, the Google Doodle allows users to attempt to solve it virtually. The web animation even counts the number of turns it takes. — AFP-Relaxnews
