NEW YORK, Jan 3 — At US$999.99 (RM3,293), the 50-inch (127cm) set, which will debut at the International CES on Tuesday, is 150 times cheaper than Samsung’s latest offering.

Three days after Samsung put its 110-inch US$150,000 television — the world’s largest and most expensive ultra-high definition model — on sale, normality has been resumed in the shape of Polaroid’s latest offering: the 50GSR9000 50-inch 4K Ultra HD TV, which, at one cent under US$1,000 is very likely the world’s least expensive ultra-high definition set.

In fact, it’s so cheap that it could just as easily compete with premium existing plasma screen HD televisions currently on the market.

And, at 50 inches from corner to corner, it’s not exactly miniscule either. Though, unlike Samsung’s monster, potential buyers won’t have to build an extension or raise their ceilings in order to fit it into their living rooms.

As well as an ultra-high definition flagship, Polaroid will also be taking the wraps off a number of smart TVs with different screen sizes at the upcoming International CES, which gets underway on January 7 in Las Vegas. — AFP-Relaxnews
