KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — September arrives and with it, Apple’s new devices alongside a new CEO in John Ternus.

Let’s get to it.

What do I need to know about the phones?

Apple announced the new Pro models namely the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, as well as the much-anticipated iPhone Duo.

Here's the pricing for the iPhone Pro models:

iPhone 18 Pro: RM5,499 (256GB), RM6,499 (512GB), RM8,499 (1TB) and RM11,499 (2TB).

iPhone 18 Pro Max: RM5,999 (256GB), RM6,999 (512GB), RM8,999 (1TB) and RM11,999 (2TB).

The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max start from RM5,499 and RM5,999 respectively and come in four storage configurations: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.

As for the iPhone Duo, it comes in star white and night sky (white and black, just to be clear) in the same storage configurations as the iPhone 18 Pro models.

As for pricing, it is as follows: RM9,499 (256GB), RM10,499 (512GB), RM12,499 (1TB) and RM15,499 (2TB).

Tell me about the Pro models

They come in four shades: Black, White, Glacier and Burgundy.

Also new: the A20 Pro that Apple calls its most powerful chip yet, boldly calling it the most powerful chip ever on a smartphone.

Apple also touted the chip Neural Engine that will enhance performance of on-device AI.

For people with battery anxiety, you’ll be pleased to know that Apple has tweaked its charging to give you 50 per cent battery life in just 15 minutes.

The Pro model now has up to 24 hours standby while the larger Pro Max can go up to 30 hours fully charged.

The new form factor also allows new capabilities such as being able to Facetime with both cameras as well as Apple Pencil support (coming later this year).

Apple also demonstrated multitasking on the phone and a tweaked UI, a necessity with the change in form factor.

How about those cameras?

The most interesting bit is actually Apple announcing its new standard, Apple Reference Photo, that will help you determine whether a phone was actually shot on an AI as opposed to being generated.

As for performance, Apple’s new 48MP Fusion camera will have better aperture control, with four different aperture settings that can be accessed via the Camera app.

Apple also says that the new sensor boasts better image quality and low-light photography.

The iPhone Duo will also have this new 48MP main Fusion camera but will not have a telephoto lens, but will still have a 48MP wide camera.

What’s new with Siri?

Siri can now work with your camera to “see what you see” and take action in apps, even third-party apps with Siri.

All this from the new Siri app that will arrive on your home screen.

Siri also sounds more natural via Apple’s Expressive Voices that let you tweak how the AI voice sounds.

Right, so when are they available?

The preorders for the iPhone 18 Pro models start on September 12, this Saturday and will officially be available in retail on September 18.

As for the iPhone Duo, preorders open a month later on October 16 and come to retail on October 23.
