MELAKA, July 11 — A motorcyclist and his 11-year-old son were seriously injured in a 10-vehicle collision on the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) Highway in Cheng last night.

Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Supt Muhammad Zaki Ramat said the accident, which occurred at about 9 pm, involved seven cars, a lorry, a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a Honda Dash motorcycle carrying the father and son.

He said the 39-year-old motorcyclist suffered a broken leg, while his son sustained serious head injuries and required intubation after their motorcycle was struck from behind.

“Preliminary investigations found that a Toyota Hilux travelling from Malim towards Cheng is believed to have lost control before crashing into several vehicles that had stopped at a traffic light intersection, including the motorcycle carrying the two victims.

“As a result, the motorcyclist suffered a broken leg, while the pillion rider sustained head injuries and required intubation. The 29-year-old Toyota Hilux driver suffered minor facial injuries,” he said in a statement today.

Muhammad Zaki said all the injured victims were taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment.

He said drug and breathalyser tests conducted on the Toyota Hilux driver returned negative results. However, a blood sample was taken and will be sent to the Melaka Chemistry Department for toxicology analysis.

He added that all vehicles involved will be sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM) in Alor Gajah for further inspection.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Muhammad Zaki also said dashcam footage of the incident had been obtained and would form part of the investigation. — Bernama
