MUNICH, Nov 3 — Bayern Munich bosses see no rush when it comes to the contract extension with veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

“There’s a lot to be said for Manuel Neuer, but we want to focus on the sport right now. We’ve said the same thing in other cases with other players,” CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said on the sidelines of Bayern’s general assembly on Sunday.

“Manuel is under no pressure whatsoever and we’ll talk when the time is right,” he added.

Neuer, who will turn 40 next year, has been Bayern’s number one since 2011. His current contract expires in June 2026 but there’s been constant speculation on whether he will play for the Bavarians for another season.

Bayern, however, are prepared in case Neuer decides to eventually retire. Jonas Urbig performed well when he needed to replace Neuer, while Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz, who are on loan, are also other options for the future.

During the general assembly, president Herbert Hainer was re-elected for another three-year term with 93 per cent of the votes. — Bernama-dpa
