KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 ― Sarawak United FC are the new Premier League leaders after an exciting 3-2 win over Kelantan United FC at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu last night.

Midfielder Christie Jayaseelan put Sarawak United FC ahead in first-half injury time before Kelantan United FC drew level through an own goal by defender Stuart James Wilson Wark in the 58th minute.

Ten minutes later it was Kelantan United FC’s turn to take the lead through import player Alfusainey Gassama. But their joy was shortlived as Sarawak United FC made it 2-2 through striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha three minutes later.

Striker Abdul Rahim Abdul Razak then turned supersub when he slotted home the winning goal in the 80th minute to steer Sarawak United FC to top spot with 23 points.

Over at the Tan Sri Dato Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin, Negeri Sembilan FC failed to hold on to top spot when they were held to a 0-0 draw by hosts Johor Darul Ta’zim II.

The results sees Negeri Sembilan FC drop to second spot with 22 points while JDT II, who have now gone five games without a win, are fourth with 16 points, the same as fifth-placed Kelantan United FC, but with a better goal difference.

Meanwhile, the FAM-NSC Project Squad continue to be the whipping boys of the Premier League when they were thrashed 6-1 by Terengganu FC II (TFC II) at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.

TFC II went ahead as early as in the third minute through striker Muhammad Muslimuddin ‘Atiq Mat Zaid before import striker Jordan Mintah stole the show by finding the net four times in the seventh, 16th, 48th and 53rd minutes.

Although Muhaimin Izuddin Muhammad Asri managed to score a consolation goal for the home side, substitute Muhammad Isa Raman completed the rout for coach Badrul Afzan Razali’s TFC II in the 89th minute.

The ninth defeat of the season for coach Yusri Che Lah's FAM-NSC Project Squad sees them rooted to the bottom of the table with just two points while TFC II remained in third spot with 19 points. ― Bernama
