KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) bagged their first TNB Cup since 2011 by beating Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) 4-3 in a penalty shootout.

In front of a packed Bukit Jalil stadium, UniKL got the lead through Australian, Glenn Stuart Turner’s field goal in the 33rd minute. The lead was short lived as three minutes later, South Korean penalty flick specialist Jang Jonghyun, equalised for KLHC by converting a penalty stroke.

As the match came down to the fourth quarter, both teams traded penalty corners as the match went into overdrive. Both teams defended stoutly sending the match into a shoot out.

KLHC’s Lee Nam Yong scored twice with another from Australian Matt Willis while UniKL’s Marhan Jalil, Jeroen Dolf Hertzberger and Glenn Turner — two goals — helped lift the title for UniKL.

Due to the draw in regulation both teams share prize money and will take home RM80,000 each. Gonzalo Peillat took the top scorers award with 16 goals. Roslan Jamaluddin was named man of the match while the fairplay award goes to TNB Thunderbolt.
