Malaysia rout Taiwan to move into quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Team Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 ― Malaysia's men's team thrashed Taiwan 5-0 to book a quarterfinals spot against Hong Kong at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Alor Star, Kedah yesterday.

Malaysia who were under pressure to beat Taiwan by at least a 4-1 margin after losing their opening tie 3-2 to Thailand got the ball rolling when Lee Chong Wei took the first singles 17-21, 21-13, 21-15 against Wang Tzu Wei. Former world No. 1 doubles pair Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem also needed three sets to defeat Lee Jhe-Huei-Lee Yang 21-14, 19-21, 21-16. Lee Zii Jia added the third point with a 21-16, 21-13 win over Hsu Jen Hao.

Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi sealed our quarterfinals spot by overcoming world No. 13 Lu Ching Yao-Yang Po Han 21-14 20-22 21-14 and iskandar Zulkarnain completed the rout with a 21-19 21-15 defeat of Lin Yu Hsien.

In other quarterfinals matchups, China takes on India, Thailand plays South Korea while Japan play Indonesia. All matches start at 5pm.
