Siti Safiyah delivers Malaysia’s second silver in Las Vegas

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 — National women’s elite kegler, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman won Malaysia’ s second silver medal in the 2017 World Bowling Championships held in Las Vegas, United States on Saturday (Sunday in Malaysia).

The 2017 World Cup silver medallist accumulated 5,048 pinfalls in the all-event involving singles, doubles, trios and also team of five event, according to the  tournament website; http://2017wc.worldbowling.org.

Danielle McEwan of United States won the gold in the all-event with 5,126 pinfalls while Tsai Hsin-Yi of Taiwan had to settle for bronze with 5,017 pinfalls in the annual tournament held at South Point Bowling Plaza.

Earlier, Siti Safiyah and four others—Esther Cheah, Sin Li Jane, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi and Shalin Zulkifli, won a place in the semi-finals in the team of five event by knocking down 6,227 pins in six games.

Singapore led the qualifying round after posting 6,325 pinfalls, followed by Colombia in third with 6,167 pinfalls while South Korea came in fourth with 6,140 pinfalls.

Malaysia had won the silver medal through Shalin Zulkifli and Sin Li Jane in the women’s doubles event.

The men’s team comprising of Muhammad Rafiq Ismail, Ahmad Muaz Mohd Fishol, Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek, Timmy Tan and Alex Liew,however, missed the cut after finishing in sixth position out of 36 teams by accumulating 6,089 pinfalls.

Colombia came out top in the qualifying round with 6,246 pinfalls, followed by Denmark in second (6,225), Taiwan in third (6,207) while United States had to settle in fourth place with 6,204 pinfalls.

Only the top four teams in both men’s and women division will advance into the semi-finals, late Sunday. — Bernama
