KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — Malaysia cruised into the second round of the 2017 Men’s World Team Squash Championship by defeating Austria 3-0 in the final group match in Marseille, France, late yesterday.
Former national champion, Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan won the first point after edging Aqeel Rehman; 8-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3, 11-4, in a group H match played at the glass showcourt, Salle Vallier Sports Hall.
Former world junior champion, Ng Eain Yow doubled the lead by disposing Jakob Dirnberger; 1-7, 11-6, 7-11 and 11-7.
Mohd Addeen Idrakie Muhd Bahtiar sealed a comfortable win for Malaysia by dislodging Lukas Windischberger; 11-7, 11-2, 11-7.
Team manager, Major (rtd) S. Maniam was pleased with the win and praised the players for a splendid performance but warned them not to take lightly Group G runner-up Scotland, in the match late Thursday.
"At this stage all the teams are good.The Scottish boys are hard and aggressive players and they are going to come at us.
Its going to be a hell of a battle!,” Maniam was quoted as saying in the World Squash Federation (WSF) website;www.worldsquash.org.
India who emerged as Group H runner-up behind Malaysia will take on Group G winner, Germany in another second round match, late Thursday. — Bernama
