KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — Malaysia ended their barren run after winning the silver medal in the women’s doubles event at the 2017 World Bowling Championships in Las Vegas, United States, yesterday (early Wednesday Malaysian time).
Seasoned campaigner, Shalin Zulkifli who teamed up with Sin Li Jane, had to settle for second place, after losing 397-454 pinfalls to Jung Dawun-Kim Moon-Jeong of South Korea in the final match held at South Point Bowling Plaza, said the tournament website: www.2017wc.worldbowling.org.
Earlier, the Malaysian pair who topped the qualifying round, defeated Josie Barnes-Shannon O’ Keefe of United States, 363-334, while Jung-Kim edged another United States pair, Danielle McEwan/Kelly Kullick; 427-414 in another semi-final match.
Two other Malaysian pairs —Natasha Roslan-Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi and Esther Cheah-Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, failed to make the semi-finals.
They finished in 10th and 22nd place, respectively out of 90 pairs in the qualifying round. Only the top four pairs in the qualifying round get to advance to the semi-finals.
