Tunku Imran anoints Norza as OCM chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 ― Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Imran Ja’afar has named his deputy, Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, as the best candidate to replace him as post for the term of 2018-2020.

Tunku Imran, who took up the post of OCM chief for with an epic track record of 20 years, said apart of being the most impressive and brilliant candidate for the presidency, Norza also packs wide experience in sports locally and internationally.

Tunku Imran, who voiced out his intention to pull out from the council, also added Norza is a good leader as he is the president of BA of Malaysia and used to be with the FA of Malaysia.

"I’m optimistic that he (Norza) will be the most best candidate for the president.

"However, the process for the election is based on democratic principles and I respect that in our sports system. So let democracy decide what is the best for our sport,” he said after the OCM executive council meeting, yesterday.

The OCM election will be held in June next year.

Previously, Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has also reflected positively on Norza as the best candidate for new OCM president.

Meanwhile, Norza highly appreciated the faith Tunku Imran and Khairy have in him.

"However, as for now I focused more on the Commonwealth Games (next April) and Asia Games (August).

"The election is next year and better for me to concentrate on my task as the OCM deputy president first.

"I let the council decide on my fate in the OCM next year,” said Norza.
