Azizulhasni fails to make keirin final in World Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 — National track cycling ace Mohd Azizulhasni Awang’s misfortune at the UCI World Track Cycling Championships in Manchester, England continued when he failed to make the keirin final last night (Monday in Malaysia).

The rider from CIMB Pro Cycling Team who is also known as the Pocketrocketman for his burst of speed towards the finishing line, managed only 10th spot in the semifinals that involved 12 riders, with a time of 10.785s, according to the UCI website; www.uci.ch.

He had also failed to qualify for the Sprint final earlier.

Another Malaysian rider, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, meanwhile, failed to make it to the second round in the same event after finishing third in the third heat of the first round at the HSBC United Kingdom National Cycling Centre.

Only two riders at the top of their respective heats qualify for the next round.

The keirin gold was won by Matthijs Buchli from Holland while the silver went to Ukraine rider Andrii Vynokurov and Juan Peralta Gascon from Spain finished third. — Bernama
