Inaugural Tour de Selangor draws 15 teams

SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — Fifteen teams will be competing in the inaugural Tour De Selangor cycling race starting on Tuesday to October 21.

Selangor Youth, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Amirudin Shari who is also chairman of the championship said the race would involve five stages covering 558.4km.

"The tournament will be participated by 15 continental, national and club teams.

"It is hope the race will further enhance the national cycling arena while helping to unearth local riders for global level competitions,” he said in a media conference here today.

The race organised by the Selangor government with the cooperation of the Selangor State Sports Council and Selangor Cycling Association (PBNS) was mooted by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to promote sports tourism in the state.   

The RM2 million race will start on Oct 17 at Dataran Boulevard, Section 52, Petaling Jaya at about 11am and go through five stages before concluding in Shah Alam. — Bernama
