BUDAPEST, Sept 4 — Japan capped off a highly successful week at the world championships by taking gold in the mixed team event that brought the competition in Budapest to a close yesterday.

The Japanese had already taken seven golds and four silvers prior to this event, featuring at the world championships for the first time before its introduction to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Four of their medallists — Tsukasa Yoshida, Soichi Hashimoto, Chizuru Arai and Sarah Asahina — took part in the final as the Japanese swept the board 6-0 against Brazil.

Japan had eliminated Ukraine, Germany and South Korea earlier in the day. The Koreans picked up bronze along with France. — AFP
