KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 13 — The Youth and Sports Ministry will build the first international standard indoor track in South East Asia as an effort to develop athletics in the country.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the idea was derived from aspiration and inspiration provided by the success of three Paralympic athletes – Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi and Abdul Latif Romly – at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Khairy said the indoor complex, complete with a track, would be developed at the current Kampung Pandan Sports Complex.

"The proposed complex is in the final stages of planning. The complex will have an indoor track, artificial turf, multi-purpose hall and other sports facilities,” he said after attending a National Transformation 50 (TN50) Dialogue at the National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil, here today. — Bernama
