Be punctual, please, OCM tells national sports associations

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) have issued a reminder to national sports associations (NSAs) to finalise their preliminary list by next week or risk their athletes being excluded from the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

OCM president Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar said this in response to badminton, athletics, ice skating, and gymnastics among others requesting an extension after failing to submit their "long list” for the Games.

Individual sports will have to submit their "long list” by today while team sports are given until July 8.

Failure to do so will see them facing difficulty in seeking replacements in the event of injury to their athletes.

The final list will be submitted by June 30, but it must come from the preliminary (long list) over a two-day period for individual sports from yesterday until today.

"Over the next two days, 30 individual sports have submitted their names through their associations. Out of the 14 sports, we have received 304 athletes, 163 men and 101 women and 101 officials,” said Tunku Imran.

"There were two or three sports who had problems with their final selections due to ongoing tournaments. We will be giving them by next week to submit their names, among them, badminton, athletics and ice skating.

"The final day is June 30, due to the fasting month and Hari Raya holidays,” said Tunku Imran, at a press conference after the OCM selection committee meeting for SEA Games yesterday.

OCM general-secretary, Low Beng Choo said a replacement would not be considered if not included in the list due to accreditation issues.

"For replacements, they will only be considered, if not in the list as they have not been cleared for accreditation,” she said.

"In the event of injury, the national sports association have to submit proof of injury of athlete to request for a replacement, but they have to follow procedure. Not someone who wants to just change, for the sake of changing.”
