KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 — Malaysian squash queen Datuk Nicol David's bid for a record ninth women's world title were shattered.

In the quarterfinal tie played at the El Gouna Squash Centre in Cairo, Egypt last night (2am Malaysian time), Nicol was bundled out after losing to Egypt's Nouran Gohar.

The 33-year-old Penangite went down 6-11, 5-11, 9-11 to the 19-year-old after an intense battle for 45 minutes, according to the Professional Squash Association (PSA) official website, psaworldtour.com.

For the record, Nicol has won the world title eight times, in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

World junior champion Gohar will next face compatriot and reigning world champion Nour El Sherbini in the semifinals. — Bernama
