KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 — Tan Sri Mohamed Al Amin Abd Majid will leave it to state associations or delegates to vote for the next of BA of Malaysia (BAM) president at the annual general meeting (AGM) expected in either April or May.

Al Amin took up the post of acting president in 2015 when president Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff went on leave due to illness.

Al Amin, who was Malaysia’s Chef de Mission (CDM) to the 2016 Rio Olympics, clarified in a statement yesterday he was not a party to the supposed gentlemen’s agreement that has been making its rounds among BAM council members, including deputy president Datuk Norza Zakaria.

The letter by Tengku Mahaleel, apparently states Norza as the rightful person to take over the president’s role, when his term comes to an end this year.

"I have been approached by many journalists seeking my comments on Tengku Mahaleel’s statement on the BAM presidency,” said Al Amin.

"I have read the letter, but I wish to clarify I am not party to the supposedly gentlemen’s agreement.

"I appreciate Tengku Mahaleel’s input in naming his successor as president.

"However, elections of BAM leaders are in the hands of the delegates attending the AGM of the association — made up of heads of state badminton associations.

"Ever since my involvement in BAM over the last 20 years, the association have always found solutions of leadership transfers in an amicable and democratic manner.

"I strongly believe it would be no different this time, especially since it’s election year. I would like to wish Tengku Mahaleel the very best of health,” he said.
